Museum Night “There Are Books in the Night” will take place at Vargamäe on 17 May

A. H. Tammsaare’s father Peeter Hansen was an avid reader. There were few books in the writer’s childhood home and the main reading matter was the Bible. Later, the family also subscribed to a newspaper. Their neighbour Jakob Sikenberg, the original model for Pearu, was illiterate, but he greatly enjoyed it when children read books aloud to him. During Museum Night on 17 May, visitors can explore reading habits on the Tammsaare farms and find out what books were in the writer’s childhood home. An exhibition will be open about the books in the Tammsaare-Põhja farm library and about how reading took place on the Tammsaare farms. A special outdoor clue game created for the event, “Vihjemäng”, will take place in the museum yard. Families can explore the museum on their own, get acquainted with farm life, play the game and enjoy a beautiful spring walk around the museum grounds. The ticket is one euro, and visiting with the Museum Card is free. The museum is open from 18–23. Visitors can also taste dishes inspired by Tammsaare’s works, such as lentil soup and karask flatbread. Prices are affordable.
