Museum Night ‘The Night Is Full of Books’

A. H. Tammsaare’s father Peeter Hansen was an eager reader. There were few books in the writer’s childhood home, and the main reading material was the Bible. Later, the family also subscribed to a newspaper. Their neighbour Jakob Sikenberg, the prototype for Pearu, was illiterate, but he loved it when children read books aloud to him. On Museum Night, 17 May, visitors can explore reading habits on the Tammsaare farms and find out what books were in the writer’s childhood home. There will also be an exhibition of the books in the library of Tammsaare-Põhja farm and of how reading was practised on the Tammsaare farms. The ticket is one euro; admission with the Museum Card is free. The museum is open from 18:00 to 23:00. A special outdoor clue game called ‘Hint Game’ created especially for the event will take place in the museum yard. Families can explore the museum on their own, get to know farm life, play the outdoor game, and enjoy a beautiful spring walk around the museum grounds. Museum visitors can also taste foods inspired by Tammsaare’s works, such as lentil soup and karask. Prices are affordable.
