See also the virtual exhibition created from the annual exhibition. The museum’s annual exhibition presents objects that were important in the lives of Anton Hansen Tammsaare and the people close to him. These objects help reveal the real-life stories behind the prototypes for the novel ‘Truth and Justice’. ‘The exhibition gives the floor to objects that tell their own story from the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Where do they come from? Who owned them? What truth is hidden within them?’ says curator Siiri Kvell. The star exhibit is a Bible published in 1878, read by the writer’s father Peeter Hansen, which also plays an important role in ‘Truth and Justice’. Altogether, 12 original objects are on display. Among them is a chair made by the writer’s father Peeter Hansen, worn down by time and cleverly repaired underneath by his descendants with pieces of bicycle tyre. ‘Visitors can also see a bench made by Anton Hansen Tammsaare himself. Comparing the chair made by the writer’s father with Tammsaare’s bench shows what woodworking skills each of the two men had,’ says Kvell. The exhibition remains open until the end of February 2021.
