Take part in the curator’s tour of the annual exhibition ‘The Well-Fed Have No Appetite and the Hungry Have No Food’. 4 June, 2 July, 6 August at 13:00. During the summer months we offer a wonderful chance to combine a museum visit with a curator’s tour and enjoy a picnic at the museum with family and friends. This year’s annual exhibition, ‘The Well-Fed Have No Appetite and the Hungry Have No Food’, is also dedicated to food and peeks into the kitchens of Tammsaare’s literary characters. The exhibition draws on the writer’s short stories and major works, including the parts of ‘Truth and Justice’, ‘I Loved a German’, ‘Life and Love’, and ‘Põrgupõhja New Vanapagan’. Through food, Tammsaare described hunger for love and love itself, joy and sorrow, hope and hopelessness. His characters can be found eating in taverns, eating houses, and cafés. Food is bought at the market, gathered from the forest and river, and grown at home. Together with his characters, Tammsaare suffers gnawing hunger, but he also lays out richly laden festive tables whose very abundance can deprive those at them of appetite. As Tammsaare rightly said, the well-fed have no appetite and the hungry have no food; both are in trouble. In rainy weather, the museum’s cattle barn and shelters can be used. MENU. SAVOURY: Pearl barley salad in a cup, vegan. Ingredients: pearl barley, cherry tomatoes, bell pepper, pickled cucumber, red onion, olive oil, Dijon mustard, salt, pepper, herbs. Artisan bread topped with slices of roast pork or lentil pâté with sprouts, vegan option. Ingredients: sourdough starter, rye flour, wheat flour, caraway, pork, lentils, garlic, pepper, salt, lemon juice, sun-dried tomato, olive oil, alfalfa sprouts. Wonderful sour pickles, vegan. Ingredients: cucumber, salt, garlic, blackcurrant leaves, dill. SWEET AND DRINKS: Fruit, vegan: strawberries, grapes. Napoleon cake. Ingredients: wheat flour, butter, egg, sour cream, sugar.
